Spineless

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Democrat-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (Democrat-NY) will vote to move Michael Mukasey's nomination to be Attorney General from committee to the full Senate floor, where he will more than likely receive enough moderate and conservative Democratic votes to win the job.

Feinstein is my U.S. Senator, the former mayor of this fine city of mine, and this vote truly disappoints me. I understand voting your gut and I understand that because the President is a conservative Republican we won't get a progressive Democrat as Attorney General.

But when Mukasey suggested that the President of the United States was not subject to the rule of law, his nomination should have been immediately derailed. The affirmative votes by Feinstein and Schumer go against everything American voters demanded in the last election: a return to the equal powers of government demanded in the Constitution; checks and balances; reigning in an out-of-control Executive Branch that wants no check on its power; and the imperialistic rule that comes with such spinelessness.

Take a good look around my friends. By the time this administration leaves office, you will no longer recognize America.
