The Gallup polling organization released two contradicting presidential election polls yesterday. The first, their daily tracking poll, shows Barack Obama leading John McCain by eight points, 48% to 40%. Their second poll, done separately for USA Today, shows McCain leading Obama by four points, 49% to 45%.
So, what gives? Well, I for one can't believe that last week's hugely successful foreign tour hurt Obama. Given that other polls show a comfortable Obama lead, the Gallup poll for USA Today must be some sort of anomaly or outlier. Time will tell, of course. And with the summer Olympics starting in a little over a week and the Democratic Convention following in short order (not to mention news of Obama's VP pick somewhere in there), coverage of the McCain campaign is going to be minimal at best.
