Berry to Direct OPM

John Berry has been nominated by President-elect Obama as Director of the Office of Personnel Management. That would make Berry the highest ranking openly gay official in the new administration to date.

Berry served in the Clinton administration as Assistant Secretary of the Interior, and is currently Director of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

The director of OPM is the President’s principal advisor in matters of personnel administration. The agency is responsible for planning for the needs of the Federal workforce and for helping federal agencies improve human resources management.
