DiFi's Wig Too Tight?

After insisting that any appointment made by Gov. Rod Blagojevich (Democrat-IL) to the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Obama not be sworn in, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Democrat-CA) has changed course and is insisting that Roland Burris take the oath of office. (I agree with her on the issue, but bare with me here.)

And now she has her panties in a wad over Obama's choice of Leon Panetta to head the CIA.

What's going on? Manu Raju has the story:
While Feinstein has broken with her party in the past, her double shot this week seems to have caught Democratic leaders off guard as they tried to show a sense of unity at the opening of the 111th Congress.

Feinstein, who turns 76 in June, is rumored as a candidate for California governor in 2010, and Democrats say privately that she may be breaking with her party to better position herself for that race. [...]

With Obama in the White House and Democrats holding a big majority in the House, Republicans may need help from centrists such as Feinstein to stop Democratic legislation from moving through the Senate.
DiFi's wig seems to be a bit too tight.

Sen. Feinstein was one of the many spineless Senate Democrats who essentially threw the Constitution under a bus by rubber-stamping many of President Bush's lawless post-9/11 policies. And now she wants to pick a fight with the incoming president of her own party?

If this is really her way of positioning for a run for governor here in California, then it would do her well to remember that Barack Obama's share of the vote here was larger than any presidential candidate since 1936:
Barack Obama
8,274,473
61.05%

John McCain
5.011,781
36.92%
The people of California - and the voters of America - voted overwhelmingly for a change in course. If Dianne Feinstein wants to try and block the new president's agenda, that is her right. But she should be warned...such moves would be detrimental in a primary campaign.
