As I said yesterday, there is no need for a showdown on the Senate floor today when the new congress is seated. The American people want the new government to tackle the enormous problems facing our great nation, and that work needs to begin without drama and without delay. Barack Obama becomes president in just 14 days and there is a lot of work to get done.
The hapless Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, should let the hapless Senator-designate, Roland Burris, take the oath of office at noon (ET) and then let the legal and electoral processes play out in Illinois.
Burris won't be around for long. His behavior this past week all but ensures his defeat in the 2010 Democratic primary.
