Obama and South Carolina

South Carolina is about as red as red states come in presidential general elections (Bush won it 58% to 41% in 2004), but it can be make or break for both parties in the nominating primaries.

So news that Hillary Clinton's 13-point lead over Barack Obama in September has dwindled to a 2-point lead today should be considered significant. Of course, we're weeks away from this particular primary and things in Iowa and New Hampshire could alter the picture drastically. But Sen. Obama's campaign must be thrilled with their candidate's momentum at this stage of the game.
