Five years ago today, the singer Edmund Sylvers passed away following a battle with lung cancer. Sylvers and his brothers and sisters scored several chart hits in the 70s and 80s, but are most remembered for the #1 platinum single, "Boogie Fever."
One of the more under-appreciated groups in the genre, the Sylvers recorded some of the finest R&B songs of the day, including "Fool's Paradise," "Wish I Could Talk To You," "Don't Stop, Get Off," and "Come Back Lover, Come Back." Their music provided me with a certain escape when I was growing up. As such, their library will always hold a place near and dear.
It's not much of a tribute, as I was limited to what was offered on YouTube, but click here for a few of the Sylvers' greatest (and, to be fair, one or two not so greatest).
