Tonight's prime time press conference was an absolute home run for the President. After reading his opening remarks like the educated adult he is (as opposed to reading them like a below-average fifth-grader presenting a book report...yes, I'm talking about you Mr. Bush), President Obama proceeded to answer questions from the press in a calm, intelligent manner, presenting a solid case for the economic recovery bill, taking some much needed swipes at the Republicans...and saying the word "nuclear" correctly.
The President showed a solid command of the issues and quite the analytical mind. And after eight years of the exact opposite from the previous president - the guy who drove us into this precipice to begin with - the evening was a much-needed breath of fresh air.
The press was impressive as well. No soft-ball questions were asked, no crappy non-issues brought up (with, of course, the exception of Fox). All queries were substantial - exactly what the American people need from the fifth estate right now.
If there were any residual doubters, they can rest assured tonight: The competents are back at the helm. And although this economic recovery bill has its flaws, by moving it through congress, it is clear the President and his team are ready to tackle this crisis head-on and do whatever is necessary to pull the Unites States out of this extremely severe Bush/Cheney economic disaster.
